    Skola Dress and Top

Do you have a blog or website you visit over and over again for inspiration? I have been sewing for as long as I can remember, but only started sewing clothes when my little Anna was born. During my pregnancy, there were a few blogs I always scrolled through looking for sewing tips and tutorials. My sewing skills have pretty much been self-taught this way. And by the time she was born, I couldn’t wait to make her all the cute little things! 😀 Elegance and Elephants was always one of those websites I drew inspiration from. Heidi’s tutorials and free patterns (because we were adjusting to only 1 income…

    Kids Clothes Week, May 2016

Well, it’s Kids Clothes Week again! I’ve been so busy testing patterns I almost let it pass me by. Luckily, the latest pattern I had the pleasure of testing is just perfect. It hasn’t been released just yet, but it’s such a lovely little girls’ top, I just couldn’t resist sharing. The theme for Kids Clothes Week this time around is “The Future.” So, seeing as how this pattern is set to release in the near future, I think it fits the criteria 😉 I will have more info about this new pattern once it’s finally released. But for now, I just want to give you a little sneak peak.…

    3 Little Kittens for KCW

My last project for Kids Clothes Week was inspired by Anna’s favorite nursery rhyme, “The Three Little Kittens.” Anna LOVES kitties. So naturally, this would be her favorite story. I’m sure you’ve noticed a few other kitty themed projects I’ve done over the months. Her Princess Kitty birthday dress, her Hello Kitty Halloween costume last Fall, and now this one. And I’m certain there will be more to come. The dress itself doesn’t actually have any kitties on it though (sorry Honey). But she loves the very vintage looking yellow dress in the story. Not to mention, I happen to have the perfect pattern and material for it. And even…

    Playing Dress-Up

We’re playing dress-up for Kids Clothes Week today! It’s time to retire some of Daddy’s favorite old and VERY worn shirts. Out with the old and in with new! But what are we going to do with all the old ones? Have some fun, of course ;p How about we go a step further and do a little re-purposing? A little snip here, another snip there…. Put them together and what do you get? A cute and functional dress for Daddy’s little girl! The adjustable sleeves from the denim were cut in half (length-wise) and sewn together in the middle for the bodice. No pattern used here. Just a little…

    Color Me

It’s Kids Clothes Week again! The theme this season is “Toys.” Clothes inspired by toys, clothes that look like toys, clothes that are toys….well, you get the picture. One of Anna’s favorite things to do is color. So what’s more perfect than a dress made from fabric she can color on! A few months back, Anna and I were scrolling through Fabric.com and came across this Color Me fabric together. It’s fun to let Anna look at fabric with me, that way I know I’m buying something actually likes. Not to mention, for a 3 year old, she’s got pretty good taste 😉 Initially, Anna was reluctant to color on…

    Vintage Southern Belle “Tinny Dress”

While I was participating in the Kids Clothes Week challenge, I noticed a few of the other designers were sewing a dress called “The Tinny”. Out of curiosity, I read a few of their blog posts to see what it was all about. Turns out, it is a new release of an already existing pattern from Straight Grain. The new Tinny Dress has different options and variations making it easy to customize the look you want. The style of the TInny is vintage-modern. Right up my ally! Seems like a good match for all my vintage linens. I guess I have to make one now 😉 Options Options Options! The Tinny…

I accept the challenge (Kids Clothes Week- Day 7)

Day 7- The final day of the Kids Clothes Week challenge. It’s the last day of Kids Clothes Week. We’ve had a busy week of sewing and photo shoots. Anna’s starting to feel (and act) like the little princess she is. Ha ha, maybe we should cool it with all the photos 😉 For my last project, I decided to transform a vintage table cloth into a dress for Anna. Most of the vintage linens in my stash have embroidery, but every once in a while I come across vintage material with a great print I can’t pass up. When I found this table cloth, I just knew it could…

I accept the challenge (Kids Clothes Week- Day 6)

Day 6 of the Kids Clothes Week challenge. It’s hard to believe we’re on Day 6 already. This week has gone by so fast. Time flies when you’re having fun! For today’s submission, I chose to sew a skirt. We had company coming over today and I needed a project that could be finished quickly. It’s been a while since I’ve done one too. I don’t know why. Skirts are super quick and simple to make. But for a sewing challenge, “quick and simple” almost feels like cheating. To make up for it, I wanted to add an unexpected element to the skirt. Usually, I like to work with vintage…

I accept the challenge (Kids Clothes Week- Day 5)

Day 5 of the Kids Clothes Week challenge: So far for the Kids Clothes Week challenge, I’ve been sewing garments that don’t really go along with the theme of my shop and blog. Vintage linens, in particular vintage embroidery, is my preferred material. I love the idea that someone from a past era took the time to create something beautiful. It’s a shame so many of these linens get stored away and forgotten. It’s my mission to reinvent these items so people can enjoy them again. So why not get back to my passion? My submission for Day 5 of the Kids Clothes Week challenge started out as a vintage…

I accept the challenge (Kids Clothes Week- Day 4)

Day 4 of the Kids Clothes Week challenge! After having my 4th baby, I didn’t lose weight like I did with the others. So needless to say, I’ve got a lot of clothes in my closet that don’t fit anymore. But unlike most women who stare at their closet in self-loathing despair over having out grown their clothes, I look at it as an opportunity for creativity. What was once mine can now be Anna’s. She is my little mini-me after all. It’s actually fun to go through my closet and look for something I can transform into something cute for my baby girl. I’ve made lots of cardigans and a…
