I accept the challenge (Kids Clothes Week- Day 6)

Day 6 of the Kids Clothes Week challenge. 😍

It’s hard to believe we’re on Day 6 already. This week has gone by so fast. Time flies when you’re having fun!

Vintage pillowcase skirt with an off-centered, adjustable ribbon bow.

😍 For today’s submission, I chose to sew a skirt. We had company coming over today and I needed a project that could be finished quickly. It’s been a while since I’ve done one too. I don’t know why. Skirts are super quick and simple to make. But for a sewing challenge, “quick and simple” almost feels like cheating. To make up for it, I wanted to add an unexpected element to the skirt.

The lining was embellished with light yellow, vintage lace.

Usually, I like to work with vintage linens. I get great satisfaction in re-purposing vintage material that would otherwise be forgotten. 😍 With that said, I decided to use a vintage linen pillowcase for this skirt. Pillowcases, vintage or not, are perfect for sewing toddler sized clothing. This particular pillowcase was embroidered with pink flowers (Hibiscus, I think) which makes for a super sweet and girly skirt. For that “unexpected element”, I wanted to add an off-center bow in a color that would compliment the embroidery.

It’s difficult to see in the photos, but the flowers have yellow in the centers which correlates with the yellow ribbon. Even though the waist band is primarily elastic, the ribbon helps tighten the skirt as needed. This skirt is also lined with anti-static polyester lining material (the same material used to line wedding dresses). 😍 The lining helps protect the embroidery from little knees and adds to the quality of the finished product. This skirt offers comfort and quality with a vintage, shabby chic flare!

Just one more day to go for the Kids Clothes Week challenge. See you tomorrow  😍
