    Madeline Dress

This week’s theme with Project Run and Play is All that Glitters:  Metallics, glitter, sparkles, jewels…incorporate any (or all of these) into a look of your choice.. 😍 Oh, there so much that could be done for girls with shiny things. But how to incorporate that in with my vintage style? That soft, shabby chic vintage look that I am usually working towards makes this one a challenge for me. Luckily, I found this sweet cotton fabric featuring cute gold metallic bows at Joanns on sale (they don’t seem to have it in white anymore so I linked to their pink one). To add a little more sparkle to Anna’s dress, I used this…

    Princess Kitty

Our Princess Anna is turning 3 this month! When asked what kind of dress she wants to wear on her birthday, in her cute little raspy voice, she very confidently requested a “pwinthess ditty buffday dweth.” Translation: “princess kitty birthday dress.” Anna is a girl who knows what she wants for sure. Her birthday also happens to be on Valentine’s Day. Yup, she was our little Valentine’s baby 😍  So you know we gotta throw that in the mix as well. Gosh! Hope I can deliver…. Well….. have you ever had one of those projects that, no matter what you do, you can’t seem to get it right? This was totally…

Muddy Tennis in a Hopscotch Dress

While the rest of America is gearing up for the Superbowl, our TV has been set to Tennis. The Australian opens are reaching the finals and, as always, it been exciting to watch. If you don’t follow tennis, I recommend giving it a try. This little number Anna is wearing was made from a couple of tee shirts that I…um…out grew …(sigh) 🙁 Oh well, my loss is her gain….Or, is it my gain is her gain? Either way, Anna looks better in my clothes than I do. I am sewing this dress for the Nothing But Knit sew along at Project Run and Play. 😍   The neck binding and her leggings were made from…

    Is It Spring Yet?

Is it too early to be thinking about Spring yet?  There’s still 2 more months of Winter but one can always dream. Fresh, clean air from Spring rains. Spring flowers emerge after a long hibernation. Gardeners plant their seeds, anticipating the year’s bounty. And the excited sound of kids playing outside after an eternity indoors. *Sigh….But until then…. 😍 The Monte Blanc Pattern from Sewing In No Man’s Land (the 2nd pattern this year from The Sew What Club) is an adorable little skirt with an optional bib and suspenders for Winter. But with Spring on the brain, minor adjustments will be made for Anna to get a lighter look (with a…

How to Restore Vintage Linens to Their Former Glory

One obstacle of working so much with vintage linens is the presence of stains and odors. Whether you want to recycle yours for sewing projects or just use them for their original purpose, you’ll first want to restore those vintage linens to their former glory. Take a look at this embroidered linen. I absolutely fell in love with the little orange birds. I’m not entirely sure what it was used for though. Dresser scarf maybe? The flower basket in the middle is upside down. Maybe it was used to wrap bread?  If you happen to know what this is, please leave a comment. I would love to know! 😍 Do you know…

1st Project of 2016: The Waffle Tee

A new year brings a new line-up of sewing projects! I was recently turned on to The Sew What Club. Sign up for a membership and receive 2 patterns each month for a whole year. What better way to start the new year than to have new sewing projects to look forward to twice a month! 😍 So the first pattern of the year is the Waffle Tee from The Sewing Rabbit. I don’t normally sew tee shirts for Anna. I don’t know why, I guess it’s because tee shirts are so cheap to buy and sewing dresses is much more fun. But of course, one of the reasons I like to sew for Anna in…

    Forget-Me-Not Tinny

Back before I was a wife and mother, I used to paint and draw a LOT. It’s such a messy hobby though. And after loosing a few pieces to smudgy (but still cute) little fingers, I put my hobby on hold and found sewing to be just as rewarding. Now, in an effort to challenge myself and learn more sewing techniques I have been participating in sewing challenges and sew-alongs, etc. It’s been so much fun to try new things and see other designers creativity as well. With all that said, 😍 I was excited to come across this next one. Project Run and Play is a sewing blog that holds…

    Tweed Forest Path Cape

While I was sewing Anna’s Tweed Swingset Skirt with Pockets and Oversized Bow, I remembered that I had purchased the Oliver + S Forest Path Cape a little while back and still haven’t done anything with it yet. I still have some of the tweed material left over from the skirt that would work perfectly. A matching cape and skirt seems very 1940’s vintage. Just my style! 😍 But while they match on the outside, they don’t have the same lining material. I ran out of the orange cherry blossom fabric I used for the skirt, but I think this sweet bird print looks just as nice. It’s got birds, which Anna loves, and…

Tweed Swingset Skirt with Pockets and Over-sized Bow

Ok…..How do you say “No” to an adorable 2 year old? Does she really need more clothes? No, I am sewing new items for her all the time. She’s got more clothes than I do. Does she really need those new shoes? Umm…..well…..she needs shoes that match her new clothes, right?…. 😍 Alright, so I didn’t buy her new shoes. But I did make her another Swingset skirt! Oliver + S is hosting a Swingset Skirt Sew Along this week. Initially, I made my first skirt in advance. I was having surgery and wasn’t sure I’d be able to sew this week. But recovery is going better than expected and I’m back at the sewing machine. Going slooowwww, but…
