NEW Pierside Pencil Skirt

NEW Pierside Pencil Skirt

It’s my birthday today! Yahhh!!! But, I will spare you the gory details of how young I am, and share my latest make with you instead. The NEW Pierside Pencil Skirt from New Horizons Designs is a ‘relaxed’ pencil skirt, designed for knits. Super flattering and super cozy, and perfect for fun, birthday Mommy and Me outfits. Happy Birthday to ME! This skirt is totally going to be a staple in my (and my daughter’s) wardrobe.

Let’s go over the options, shall we?

First of all, this skirt is available for both Women and Girls (hence, Mommy and Me outfits!) Size range starts at Girl’s size 12-18 months, and goes all the way up to a Women’s size 26. And, as I said above, the Pierside is designed for knits. Which means, I can comfortably kneel down to look at ALL the little things my daughter constantly wants to show me throughout the day. “Mom, look at this cool leaf I found!” Nice! Never known a pencil skirt to be so accommodating 😉

Length and Hemlines

The Pierside Pencil Skirt features a variety of lengths and hemlines to get a different look ever time.

3 length options:

  • Knee length
  • Mid length
  • Maxi

This little girl got the knee length for her skirt. Perfect for warm, summer days! This length would also be perfect for a woman at the office. Imagine this in black double brushed poly or Liverpool. Classic-looking pencil skirt. She has a while before she has that option, but you can picture what I’m throwing at you, right?

3 different hemlines

  • Straight hem
  • Curved hem
  • Side Vents

My skirt features the mid length with side vents. I love the coverage I get with this length, while still showing just enough leg to feel feminine and sexy. The side vents add a little interest to the hemline, as well as easy-of-movement (for a mom who is constantly running after kids)

*Ugh, never mind the crazy hair. The wind refused to let me take decent pics…. 😉

…More Options!

This skirt features a yoga waistband with optional drawstring. I love the comfort and extra ‘Mama belly’ coverage of a good yoga band. And the drawstring gives my skirt a fun, sporty look. The Pierside pattern includes instructions to make your own drawstring, but I find it just as easy to use a shoe string instead. But, if yoga bands and drawstrings aren’t your thing, the band can be folded down for a lower waistline as well.

And, of course the Pierside Pencil Skirt has pockets! Nicely sized, with enough room to hold a cellphone or keys… or, all those special little treasures your kids find outside and insist that you keep.

My daughter actually slipped a worm into my pocket once. Imagine my horror when I reached in for my lip balm! On second thought, maybe I should be avoiding pockets. Lol!

What’s the weirdest (or most frightening) thing your kids have snuck into your pockets?

BTW: The Pierside Pencil Skirt is quickest and easiest sew EVER! My daughter basic version took a mere 20 minutes to whip! Which means, she can run around and enjoy her new skirt in record time 😀

Mine took a teensy bit longer with the additional options. But still super quick at about an hour and a half (while talking on the phone).

While I sewed these skirts in a casual striped French terry, the Pierside could certainly look more refined depending on different fabric choices. I am actually considering making a knee length in a floral Liverpool or scuba to wear to an upcoming wedding this Fall. Paired with a nice blouse, no one will ever know I am actually sitting through the ceremony in comfort! For that matter, this would be perfect for the office too (for those of you who work). Of course, if I do sew this more formal version, I will be sure to share it here with you 😉
