My first “selfish sewing” post! That’s right, I’m sewing for myself this time. What better way to celebrate Mother’s Day than to treat myself to a new made-by-me blouse from vintage embroidered linens? Even better? A matching (but not too matchy-matchy) blouse for Anna too.
I get a lot of joy from sewing for my baby girl. But, if I must have an excuse to finally sew something for myself, then let be the Soho-along from See Kate Sew. The Soho blouse is a bohemian styled top with tons of girly charm. It’s nice and flowy and perfect for warm weather. We have been having unseasonably warm weather here in the Pacific Northwest, so I very much welcome a breezy top such as this. Anna is getting the matching Manhattan blouse.
I used the remnants of a vintage embroidered table cloth for the bodice. (If it seems familiar, it’s because I used the other half of it to make a Swingset skirt for Anna a while back. You can see it here.) Anna’s blouse was made from a vintage embroidered table runner. The skirts for our blouses were made from bed sheets. I love re-purposing bed sheets. They were specifically made for comfort, making them perfect material for clothing that feels good to wear. Not to mention the cost savings. It’s a win, win!
My square-shaped table cloth was embroidered with a blue floral design in each corner. I combined 2 of them down the middle for my bodice.
The vintage linens seem to give this bohemian styled top a shabby chic/romantic look. I love it.
Anna is wearing the cutest and most comfortable little pair of bubble shorts under her blouse. I hacked the Unfancy Pants pattern from Unfancy Designs to make these. If you haven’t purchased this pattern yet, you need to. Maybe, I’ll do a tutorial for this hack soon 😉
Oh! And guess who took my pictures for me. My 7 year old, Liam! That’s right. 7! He loves taking photos and videos. He’s turning 8 next month, and I know it sounds crazy to give an 8 year old a camera for his Birthday, but he certainly seems to know what he’s doing. Proud Mama right here! If anyone has suggestions on a decent camera/camcorder that won’t break the bank, please let me know in the comments below 😉
Happy Mother’s Day!!!!
