1st Project of 2016: The Waffle Tee

A new year brings a new line-up of sewing projects! I was recently turned on to The Sew What Club. Sign up for a membership and receive 2 patterns each month for a whole year. What better way to start the new year than to have new sewing projects to look forward to twice a month! 😍

So the first pattern of the year is the Waffle Tee from The Sewing Rabbit. I don’t normally sew tee shirts for Anna. I don’t know why, I guess it’s because tee shirts are so cheap to buy and sewing dresses is much more fun. But of course, one of the reasons I like to sew for Anna in the first place is so she has original, one of a kind, handmade items. So this was a good prompt for me to try something new.

My materials: Navy blue tee shirt from Daddy’s closet + lacey elastic.

😍 A few years ago, my husband bought a handful of tee shirts because the material was nice and soft. But (the busy guy that he is) he neglected to try them on first. So when he got home and discovered they didn’t fit, the shirts got tucked away in the back of the closet never to be seen again. Until now! Time for a little re-purposing 😀

And to give the tee shirt a sweet, vintage feminine look, I replaced the cuffs and neckband of Anna’s Waffle Tee with stretchy elastic lace.

A little sneak peak at my sewing habits: I have never owned or used pattern weights. I just pick up a good book. (I suppose I could have chosen a “friendlier” book to make a little girl’s shirt with) 😍

Steven King: More than just a good read….also a good pattern weight;)

For the record: The Waffle Tee actually has long sleeves that are put together in 3 sections. Anna is going through a hand washing faze right now. I’m always finding her in the bathroom washing her hands. Wonderful! Problem is, she hasn’t quite grasped the concept of rolling up her sleeves first. So I decided to forgo the long sleeves on this shirt and omitted the bottom sections. You know, just for my own sanity 😍

And here we have it. A nice, comfortable tee shirt for Anna, made from one of Daddy’s old shirts.

I think the lacey elastic gave this tee a “peasant” look.

😍 I love this color on her. Brings out her eyes 🙂

As much as I love to make dresses, it’s good to have a few practical, everyday items in the closet as well. This Waffle Tee certainly fits the bill! I LOVE the way this cute and cozy little shirt turned out. More importantly, Anna loves it. And that makes me happy 😍

😍 Can’t wait for the next project! 😀
